The BabyYarnoz Universe Speaks

So, sometimes there are crazy things that happen.  Really crazy stuff.  Today was one of those days

It started off pretty lazy.  I am on call, but have been slow this week.  So I had nothing to do.  DQ was off this week, so I picked her up to have a lunch date.

I took her to this French restaurant that she loves that makes Crepes.  Hmmm...  We went there this past weekend with the Kizzles, and it was awesome.  I had to come back.  I mean really, who doesn't love thin pancakes, melted cheese, chicken and mushrooms.

So we order our lunches and sit over in the corner of the restaurant, along the window.  This faces Oleander, which is one of the busier roads in Wilmington.  My back was to the corner, facing the restaurant. DQ was facing the corner.  We enjoy our yummy savory lunches.

Yum yum.  Mine was some concoction of chicken, mushrooms, and cheese.  DQs was boars head turkey, cheese, remoulade sauce and cheese.  Yummy yummy!

We finished up in minutes and sat fulfilled.

Just right before we're getting ready to go...  out of the corner of my eye... I see a large wheel come barreling into the window behind DQ.  Enter the surreal experience.  As I think back about it now, this feels like it lasted 30mins, but it was probably only seconds.  At first I thought is was a prank or joke, some college kids throwing a wheel into the window.  I figured it would just bounce off.

It didn't.

A crazy loud explosion, followed by shattered glass everywhere.  It honestly sounded like a gunshot.

Somehow the tire did bounce back into the parking lot, protected from the restaurant interior by the safety glass!

Wow!!! That was interesting, I thought to myself.

Then I actually realized what actually happened.  I looked over at the DQ.  Fortunately she was fine, but obviously shocked.  Then I looked around the restaurant.  Fortunately, there was no one near us, except for a couple that was getting coffee behind us.  (Editors Note:  Now I realized why I should never ever wear scrubs out in public again.... )  Once DQ and I realized that we were fine, and not bleeding to death, we assessed the scene!

"Everyone calm down, we're professionals"....  yup!  We're the Docs!

The couple was fine.  The dude had shards of glass all over his left arm, parts in his left leg, and in his hair.  Fortunately all was superficial.  The woman was just in shock, with some back pain.  Nothing damaged.  (Also, one patron actually joked with me as to how old I was.  yup... Even in times of trauma and stress, people still find if funny to say I'm 12)

While the DQ was doing that, I looked outside to see what really happened.

Then the enormity of the situation hit home.

As it turns out, the large truck tire actually belonged to a truck.  A large dump truck that is.  It was over on the opposite side of Oleander broken down.  The back axle snapped in two and collapsed.  The tire that flew off was the back right tire.  This tire then, somehow, crossed the truck and four lanes of traffic and hit the side of our restaurant.  Can you imagine how fast that thing was actually going?!  It is truly shocking that no one got hurt.

To really visualize this, see below.  The stool on the right is where the DQ was sitting.

Now I like to get sappy sometimes, or wax some poetic, or drop some tear jerkers.  But, not here.  I think the summary here is pretty obvious.

The BabyYarnoz Universe all got super big hugs tonight.  As well to those who are reading this.

ADDENDUM:

Apparently this was a big deal, since it made the local news TV and websites.  I could have been a celebrity!!!

Happy Birthday Pizz!

Well, good evening loyal BabyYarnoz Universe.  We're back for a rare post of the humorous (hopefully) kind.

Today is the Pizz birthday!

Oh, yes.  The one that started it all.  The spark behing the origination of BabyYarnoz, BY Universe, KemperVision, the BabyYarnoz channel at YouTube, the Editor and the DQ is getting older.

She is 3!!!

Wow!

How time flies.  IE what now looks like this...

Used to look like this

And, unfortunately, sometimes even like this.

(she'll eventually kill me for posting this one... but I have more of her and her sister!)

But I will never forget her looking like...

She is an amazing little girl (er... excuse me... big girl!!!), one who truly takes the best of both Charmaine and myself...  (essentially my humor/goofiness, my hair, and Maine's brains and looks...).

I so look forward to the next year, and whatever exciting things it will bring.
