Tonsil Wars: Episode 5- The Tonsils Strike Back

Whew!

What a stressful 2 weeks that has been!  Just when the BY Republic had thought they had vanquished Mila's tonsils forever, they strike back with a vengeance!

It was punishing.

There were tears, drugs, and popsicles!  Ice cream and pudding.  Soup.  And this was all for The Editor!  (ah, I digress)

Man the Mila Monster was in rough shape.  There were days where she would prance around like nothing happened, buoyed by the q3h alternation of motrin and Tylenol.  Then there were days where she was a menace!  She went on a hunger strike!  Didn't eat or drink anything due to the pain.  Times when the Queen and I had to hold her down and inject meds into the back of her throat to get them (partially) down.

She would walk around with her lovie in her mouth, or sometimes not.  Always drooling feverishly like Jabba the Hut!  She would pace the halls at night again, screaming and crying in pain.  I wanted to curl up inside a TonTon's intestines and sleep for days.... but alas, I could not.

The Queen had it worse.  She had to keep her all day!

Fighting the Tonsils took a toll on the BY revolution.  We lost some good Zzz's out there.  Coco tried to use the Force to help, but to no avail.  The Editor changed roles from Lando to Han Solo, but could never figure out which fit right!  (Maybe Chewbacca!)

Sometimes we would mount up in the Milennium Falcon, just to drive around.  Still the Tonsils found us!

The Force is strong in this one

At the end of Episode 5, it looked like we were forever doomed to the Tonsil Empire!

Angels on Horseback

So, there are moments when I flash back to my childhood and remember events in my life.  Lots of times there is a Deja Vu moment, to whit the Kizzles do something that is eerily familiar or elicits a response very similar to that of my parents.  Also I have found myself doing things that bring on the "Oh I just did something my parents did!"  It is quite an interesting psychological experience.

This was one of those moments...

Last night, the Queen made excellent homemade mashed potatoes.  They were the purple potatoes and she leaves the skin/rinds in... (for extra fiber for the Editor!  I can't get enough!!!).  Also, the though (as I found out later) that the purple coloring would make for an alluring Kizzle dinner.

Well, the Kizzles weren't having it tonight.  (Which meant more for the Editor, since these were phenomenal!)

But in order to get to desert (which was equally phenomenal homemade carrot cake!) each Kizz had to clean their plate.  (Tonights dinner also included meatloaf, a staple in the Editor's childhood!)  This included a spoonful of mashed potatoes.

Each Kizz tried the potatoes....

Mila didn't get it on her fork....

Coco got a bite to his tongue and spit it out... "yucky!"

Pizz got a biteful in her mouth!  "good girl!  That's my big girl!"  I turn away and hear a "wha-hack!"  cough cough cough  "whahack!!!"  Oh my gosh what did she do...  As I turn back around, and see that she has gagged and vomited back up the mashed potatoes on her plate...

Lovely!

Needless to say... she didn't get her desert!

(for those not in the know... picture this scene replayed about 30 years ago... Editor playing the role of the Pizz... and the role of mashed potatoes is played by an "angel on horseback"!!!....  To this day, I cannot eat an oyster....)

Tonsil Wars: Episode 4, A New Hope!

So, most of you in the BY Universe probably know that The Mila Monster had some Ginormous tonsils.  I mean she is 27lbs and about 3of those pounds are in the back of her throat! They were so big that she had sleep apnea!

So this past Wednesday was T-Day.  Time to get them out.  We'd been prepping her for a month.  (you saw the prior post with meds and Jell-O shots!)

So early AM, we got ready.  The Queen insisted on making her as cute as physically possible!

Pre-trip

Coco and the Pizz each gave her a special toy for the road, so she wouldn't be scared  (Pizz gave her lovey and Coco his blue truck!)  So, after I drop off the other two at school, I cruised on over to the outpatient surgery center.

Here we are in pre-area.  After check in!

Passing the time!

Finally, they take her back.  She was a champ.  No tears or fussiness.  Whosh and she was gone!

Then we shuffle off nervously to the waiting room for completion.  Unfortunately, my phone completely died and there was no place to charge!  I mean not an outlet in sight.  Where in 2014 does that happen!?!  We are in the tech age people!  (As an aside, they had this scary looking monitor/BP cuff above Mila's head in the above picture.  Looked like it was from 1996 and hadn't been used.  Fortunately, it was "Y2K Compliant"!)

So, the Queen is reading her mags, when I am just sitting there with nothing to do.  Nothing.  I chug 2 cups of free coffee (on top of the 2 that I drunk from home).

Wow...

Literally 20minutes later the ENT comes out and we're done!  No problems.  She was a trooper.  The nurse anesthetist came out later to "warn us" of the devil that our Mila was going to be coming out of anesthesia!  Her parting shot to us was "Whew, I got a glimpse of those tonsils when I tubed her!  Wow!  They needed to come out for sure!!!"

Ha ha ha.  our little 27lb sleep apnea girl!  And here we thought that Coco had a problem (we took him to the said ENT about a year ago to have his hearing checked.... that might have been another post!)

We make it back to see the MM.  Wow!  Yup... flashbacks to Pizz' Tubes came crashing back.  It was The Exorcist part II.  Wild, screaming, crying, thrashing, sleeping, screaming.... and that was just me!

Ha.

We finally got her calmed down and settled in to the recovery area.  The nurse informed us that she had another 2hrs to recover...

Whew!  I look at my watch.  Hey, babe, I gots to get to work!

(it was a really tough day for me!)

Stay Tuned for the next Episode.... The Tonsils Strike Back!!!
