Now Entering The Dark Side

Did I mention what the DQ is like when she gets a bee in her bonnet?  Or what she's like when she stands on a soapbox?

Well, something has been gradually happening to her for the past 3+ years as she has been forced to infrequently but painfully interact with a cable-company-that-shall-remain-unnamed (but rhymes with Lime Corner).  That's right.  The last interaction resulted into her crossing over on to the Dark Side... aka The Side of The Universe With No Cable.  It's like a bee stuck in her bonnet while standing on the soapbox.

No cable!!! you say.  Yep.  N-O C-A-B-L-E.  She started thinking and thinking and thinking of how she could thwart Lime Corner and the next thing I knew she was doing all this research and I was getting all the links to others who successfully cut the cord.

So, today we set out to Do It: turn in the cable box.  We drove to Lime Corner only to discover that they had closed the shop which was right around the corner and were going to force us to drive another 10 miles to Do The Deed.  Bastards.

But, we persevered.  It was actually a pleasant experience (at the new shop - don't tell the DQ I said so), and as a bonus we got to take home a new and improved tinier Turbo (!) modem.  Yippee!

Exhibit A: Our TV with no cable box.

Then we just had to hook it all up.  Since we also ditched the home phone line, it meant being able to rewire everything and move it all out of the back of the laundry room to a more central location.  Hooray!! Faster internet and better connection for everyone!  We even signed up for HuluPlus and watched a few shows.  Worked like a charm.  It's the most excited I've been in ages.

In other Green Machine news, the playroom/media room is looking mighty spiffy!  The play side includes the chalkboard wall and rubber flooring so they can tumble over to their hearts' content.  The media side of the room was hooked up a couple of weeks ago (see the projector on the ceiling?)  The new couch came in last week right before the birthday un-party we tried not to throw for the Twizzles.  Then this week the DQ added some finishing touches.  Not bad for a shoestring budget.  Which we didn't even need because (did I mention the best part?) we are saving over $1000 per year that we used to give to Lime Corner!!!!

What will she think of next?
